Pros & Cons of Using RF Cables

RF cables are basic cables which are primarily used for carrying audio and visual signals. The full form of RF is radio frequency.

The benefits of RF cables are discussed below.

•The coaxial design that is used in these cables helps avert potential interference.

•It uses four circular layers. From inside to outside these are - the signal carrying wire, the insulating material, a metal shield and a casing which protects the items present inside.

•Most of these cables are easy to slide-in and pull-out-of a socket. It ranges from 0.020 to 0.945 inch in  diameter, so that it can fit perfectly into all sockets.

•The connections are very secure.

•These are less likely to loosen thus maintaining the quality of the picture.

•It is also very cheap.

However, everything has its share of advantages and disadvantages, and RF cables are no exception. The disadvantages of this type of cables are mentioned below.

•It is only capable of carrying sound between two devices that too in the mono state rather than the stereo state.

•As it cannot produce stereo signal, it is not able to carry the surround sound information broadcast.    This means it is not possible to get true sound audio even if you use decoding receiver.

•The design of the cable does block the interference in theory but in real practice nothing like this happens.Cheap cables may be subjected to interference from the power cables.

• These cables only find use in TVs thus it is not widespread.
